ICB provides support for the realization of energy efficiency measures during the implementation of energy management systems.
Energy efficiency is associated to buildings, industrial processes, transports and product design. The European Union sets targets for improvement in energy efficiency. Based on these targets national guidelines are established. The “Energy Efficiency Law” (Energieeffizienzgesetz) defines measures for companies to improve their energy efficiency.
The laws apply for energy consumers, suppliers and service providers.
Energy consumers
Big enterprises are requested to implement an energy management system or to carry out an external energy audit at least every four years.
For small and medium size enterprises there are no specific energy saving rules applicable, until now. If such enterprises nevertheless implement energy saving measures then they are allowed to sell the energy savings to an energy supplier in charge or to a third party (see also trading platforms).
